Baphuon temple, one of the ancient Angkor temples in Cambodia, has been completed by archaeologist last April 2011, according to reports by international news sites on Thursday, June 30, 2011.
The 11th century Baphuon ruin, is described as the world’s largest three dimensional puzzle and religious building during the 1060 year. The dimension of the temple is 35 meters high (114 feet) and measures about 130 by 104 meters (426 x 340 feet). It was built by King Udayadityavarman II in honor of the Hindu god Shiva.
The renovation of the temple started in the 1960′s and cost about $14 million or 10 million euro.
The restoration of the Angkor temple was delayed due to tropical rains and civil war in 1970. The renovation involves the removal and return of about 300,000 sandstone blocks which were laid out in the jungle.
The three-tier Angkor temple will be inaugurated by Cambodian King Sihamoni and French Prime Minister Francois Fillon on July 3. It will then be reopened to the public.
