PHNOM PENH, (Cambodia) Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Some 89 Cambodians were
injured and another 25 killed in landmine accidents in the first seven
months of the year.
The Cambodian Mine and Explosive Remnants of War Victim Information
System said the number of casualties and victims injured or amputated
show a decrease of 7 percent and 3 percent respectively over the same
period last year.
Xinhua news agency revealed about 61 percent of the victims were men, 31 percent boys and 8 percent were women and girls.
Cambodia is one of the world's worst countries affected by mines as the
result of almost three decades of war and internal conflicts from the
mid-1960s to 1998.
Landmines have killed 19,644 people and injured 44,487 others since 1979.
