SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Immigration Department detained 164
foreigners for various offences in a four-hour operation, in the
vicinity of the old bus station in Klang on Monday.
At a press
conference in his office here yesterday, Selangor Immigration
Enforcement Unit chief, Othman Montil said the detainees, between 20
and 48, were mostly without valid travel documents, had overstayed or
abused their social visit passes.
He said the detainees were from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Cambodia, and included 47 women.
Othman added that most of them were working in restaurants and mobile phone card kiosks.
“Apart
from one woman who was working as a prostitute, most of them were
employed by locals to work in their business premises. No employer has
been detained so far but we’re still investigating as these foreigners
do not have work permits,” he concluded. — Bernama
