HANOI -- The 25th International Table Tennis Tournament, "Golden Racket 2011", will be held in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City on July 13-17.
The tournament attracts 92 Vietnamese and foreign players from Malaysia, Thailand, China, China's Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Vietnam, organizers announced on Tuesday.
Players will compete in events of singles (men and women), men's, women's and mixed doubles and teams.
South Korea is expected to bring the most players to the tournament, with 23 athletes (13 male), including the world's 25th seed, Lee Jung Woo, with a hope to win the championship.
Vietnam has three teams, including the Vietnam National Team, PetroVietnam Club Team, and Ho Chi Minh City Team. Of which PetroVietnam Team has two Chinese members, Yang Ce and Zhang Kuo.
The Vietnam Table Tennis Federation's decision to allow foreign athletes to play for Vietnamese clubs is considered an opportunity for Vietnamese players to compete with outstanding rivals and improve their skill. Last year, Yang Ce and Yang Xiaoxing from Vietsovpetro team won gold medals in the mixed doubles.
