Int’l airport planned for Lam Dong

26-08-2009

LAM DONG — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a proposal to establish air routes between the Central Highlands resort city of Da Lat and major cities in the Southeast Asian region.

Speaking at a meeting with Lam Dong People’s Committee last week, Dung asked ministries to work with provincial authorities to turn Lien Khuong Airport in Da Lat into an international airport.

The flights would link the moutainous resort city with cities in the region such as Siem Reap (Cambodia) and Singapore.

Dung also urged them to speed up the project to upgrade the National Highway No20 and the Eastern Truong Son Road which runs across Central Highland Lam Dong Province.

Dung said the province should make an effort to make the tourism and service sectors the strong points in the province’s economic development.

The province should seek capital from different sources, including the state budget, the ODA (official development assistance) and the private sector for development projects.

He added the Government could give priority to provide capital for major projects which will create favourable conditions to attract investment projects, especially in tourism. — VNS
