Police in Long An Province have arrested two of the three young men who killed a Vinasun taxi driver, robbed the cab, and hid the victim’s body in a forest.
The victim is Nguyen Van Ha, 38, of Tan Xuan Commune, Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City.
Ha was killed while he was driving the three men from the city’s Cu Chi District to Long An. His body was found on Wednesday in a forest in Long An Province.
Ha’s wife, Pham Thi My, received her husband’s body yesterday morning, May 10.
My said Ha began his working shift at 6 am on May 8 and she was unable to contact him through his mobile phone from 6 pm the next day.
Vinasun director Ta Long Hy confirmed that Ha had been a staff member of the company, and had driven the cab with number plate 51A-10307
The border guard station in My Quy Tay, Duc Hue District, Long An Province, which borders Cambodia, said that at 7:20 pm on May 9, a resident reported that a strange man left a taxicab to be kept at the resident's house at 6:30 am but never returned.
The resident told the police that there was a knife left in the car by the stranger.
A team of border guards was sent to the scene to examine the car.
At this time, another local reported to the station that a strange young man was walking suspiciously on provincial road 838 near the house.
The station’s officers and local police stopped the young man for examination and then escorted him to the police office for questioning.
The young man said his name is Pham Quang Loc, 20, of Phuoc Vinh An Commune, Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City.
He confessed to the police that he and two other young men, named Hau and Quan, took a taxi trip on Highway National 22 in Cu Chi to Long An. On the way, Loc and Hau asked the driver to stop the car and Hau then used the seat belt attached the driver seat to strangle him to death.
Hau then drove the car, with Hau and Quan inside, to My Quy Tay, where they left the car at the said resident’s house.
They then went to Cambodia by taxi motorbikes to gamble.
At 4 pm the same day, Loc lost all his money while gambling at a casino and returned to Vietnam first.
He was arrested while wandering on the provincial road waiting for Hau and Quan to return from Cambodia.
Meanwhile, the station was told by a resident that a taxi motorbike was driving two suspicious men from the border area towards Long An’s Duc Hoa District.
After receiving the information from the station, local police, with the help of local residents, contacted the driver via phone and warned him about the suspects who might be involved in the murder.
With the help of local residents, the driver later seized one of the suspects and handed him over to the police. The other suspect had gotten off the motorbike some time before the driver was informed by police.
The name of the detained suspected has not been announced.
The police are continuing their investigation and are hunting for the third culprit in the murder case.
