According to a spokesman, President Obama, has been following the security threat in Europe and has agreed that warnings should go out to all Americans travelling to Europe.
The state department on Sunday said that Americans should beware if using public transport or other tourist facilities on the continent.
Urgent warnings were issued by US security agencies on the weekend to say that Britain, France and Germany could be targeted for attacks by al-Qaeda.
The alerts suggested that attackers could target railways, subways and other tourist infrastructure.
Prospect of terrorist attacks grew last week
when European intelligence agencies became concerned over details that were emerging from an interrogation of Ahmed Siddiqui, a German man of Pakistani origin who was captured last week.
It is believed the Siddiqui arrest turned up details of plans by al-Qaeda to launch Mumbai style attacks in European cities.
Last week it was reported that Western security agencies had partially foiled an advanced al-Qaeda plan to attack European cities.
The plot involved groups of assailants taking and killing hostages.
