India and Vietnam will conduct the first joint mountain and jungle warfare training exercises in India next year and India will also help maintain and upkeep the warships of the Vietnamese navy, reported the local daily The Pioneer Thursday.The newspaper quoted Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony as saying in Hanoi on Wednesday that India will also help train Vietnamese troops for UN peacekeeping missions.
Antony made the announcement after meeting his Vietnamese counterpart General Phung Quang Thanh in the Vietnamese capital at the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations defense ministers, said the report.
The two countries can learn from each other in military affairs as Vietnam has a history of jungle warfare while India has experience in operations in all kinds of terrains such as high mountains, said the report.
