AN Indian themed dinner featuring a sizzling banquet of dishes and dancing raised more than £7500 for Barnado’s and Multiple Sclerosis Trust.
The event was arrange by Hitchin based entrepreneur Dr Bipin Patel, who joined forces with Hitchin Priory’s head chef Steve Hepworth to organise the evening at the conference centre in town.
Bipin has a passion for authentic Indian food, and created the unusual yet traditional menu. Steve lent his culinary expertise by preparing the feast.
More than 170 people went along to the event, and as well as enjoying the mouth-watering food, were entertained by a display of traditional Indian dancing.
A charity auction followed the meal, where there were many items to bid on, including a holiday in the Lake District, a helicopter ride and a five course dining experience with a private chef and butler.
Signed shirts were also up for grabs, from the likes of three-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy, and Premiership winning rugby side Leicester Tigers.
Bipin said that he was delighted the event went to plan. “I was overwhelmed by the generosity of those who donated the prizes, of everybody who attended and to Chartridge Conference Company who provided the venue free of charge,” he said.
“The location was ideal and there was a real party atmosphere all evening. For people to enjoy themselves and at the same time help such deserving causes made it a memorable occasion for me.”
Former soldier Chris Moon, who survived capture by the Khmer Rouge and lost an arm and a leg in a landmine explosion in Cambodia, paid a surprise visit to lend his support. Since his accident he has raised thousands of pounds for charity by running marathons and other events.
