As of 2008 the amount of people emigrating from the UK for 12 months or more has hit a record high. With a predicted 427,000 UK residents leaving for other countries, an estimated 590,000 arrived within the UK during 2008 as well.
As a result of this increased emigration, the total migration for the country – the difference between emigration and immigration – has fallen from 233,000 during 2007 to 163,000 in 2008. The largest number of those emigrating cited work related reasons for the move, especially those individuals that already had a set job to go to.
Emigration can be a difficult process. Assimilating to a new country and learning its laws, requirements, and navigating the paperwork requires a shrewd knowledge of the system. A new ASAP website has been developed, emigrate.co.uk, to help those considering a move abroad.
On the site, visitors will find comprehensive advice on ways to emigrate, including detailed guides specific to various locations. Looking to emigrate to Australia? There is long list of guides available for numerous popular destinations, including America, Australia, UK, Portugal, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Germany, and many more.
The International Passenger Survey (IPS) keeps track of all emigrations and attributes the majority of the rise in emigration figures to people leaving for work related reasons. Of that number, most people emigrating for work had already secured a job prior to going. In the current economic climate, many are finding more opportunity abroad and moving towards a more global perspective to the job market.
The website features news, a blog, and a forum for expats to communicate and share their emigration tips, stories, and ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’. The ‘contact us’ section is also available for anyone seeking additionally information about the site or information on it.
