Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said on Monday that he
will visit several ASEAN countries to seek collective stance of ASEAN
on South China Sea dispute.
"We will make visits to the
Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Malaysia to discuss
settlement of South China Sea dispute, particularly collective stance
of ASEAN countries on the issue,"he said.
The visit comes after
foreign ministers from the 10-nation bloc failed to release the joint
communique at the end of the ministerial meeting in Cambodia last week
for the first time since the bloc was established in 1967.
Indonesian
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Monday that such an outcome
might negatively affect the image of ASEAN and prompt the international
community to consider that there was a rift in ASEAN.
Speaking
at a press conference in Phnom Penh on Friday, Cambodian Foreign
Minister Hor Namhong blamed some individual ASEAN nations for "taking
the joint communique hostage and trying to turn the 10-nation group
into a tribunal."
"Cambodia is not a court, we cannot decide on
territorial disputes, which should be resolved by involved countries in
peaceful manner," added Hor.
