Bandar Seri Begawan - Over $3,000 was collected for the Thailand and Cambodia Flood Relief Fund from youth-related activities, which came to a close in a ceremony held at the Youth Centre last night.
The total amount of money collected, according to the organisers, was $3,342.30, thanks to donations from the youth and sport associations, clubs, volunteer organisations and NGOs in Brunei-Muara District that are involved in humanitarian efforts. Out of this total, the largest amount of money raised came from the KatakIjau Humanitarian Relief Support Group, which pooled as much as $1,732.
All the money raised were officially presented to the flood relief fund as a part of last night's proceedings at the Youth Centre. On hand to receive the donation was the guest of honour, Haji Abdul Malik bin Haji Mohammad, the Acting Director of Youth and Sports.
A number of activities were organised at the Youth Centre over a four-day period since December 15, such as exhibitions, treasure hunts, a netball championship and talent shows. The winners of various activities organised during this period received their prizes from the guest of honour last night. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to representatives of associations involved in raising funds for the flood relief fund.
The finalists of a talent competition held in conjunction with this fundraising event also performed on stage at the venue to entertain guests.
