Altogether the concert raised more than VND2.4 billion from businesses and benefactors.
Tran Tuan Anh, vice chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee said the event was not just socially significant but demonstrated that the public constant care for poor and disadvantaged children.
The event aimed to strengthen ties of friendship between Vietnam and Mekong sub-region countries and Japan. It also provided a good chance for Can Tho City to promote its socio-economic potential to international friends.
*** A “Mekong Dream” walk was later held in Can Tho City on December 2 to raise additional funds. The event attracted over 5,000 people, including Government officials, representatives from international organisations, students and pupils. It raised US$40,000 to the children go to school.
The two events were held as part of the Mekong-Japan Cultural and Tourism Days which is currently being held in Can Tho City.
