The "Thai troops - the invaders" sign remains prominently in place on the disputed border even though the Thai army asked Cambodia to remove it on Monday morning.
Reports said Army Region 2 commander Thawatchai Samutsakorn had asked Cambodian troops to take down the sign in front of Kaew Sikha Khiri Sawara temple in the disputed 4.6 square-kilometer area near the ancient Preah Vihear temple.
However, the sign was still there, the reports said.
The Thai army earlier said it would remove the stone tablet if Cambodian authorities do not do it themselves.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said earlier he would leave it to the army to ask Cambodia to remove the sign. The political sector would not get involved.
