Shame on Phnom Penh International Airport

Dear Editor,

My husband and I had a holiday in Southeast Asia from December last year to January 2010.

We travelled with Air Asia for the majority of our flights. We had a lovely holiday in your country, having arrived there following an equally memorable holiday in Vietnam.

We flew from Phnom Penh to Kuala Lumpur with Air Asia on January 14. When we arrived in Kuala Lumpur, my husband’s suitcase was missing and has not been found; even its location has not been identified since that date.

After too many costly telephone calls from Australia to Kuala Lumpur, as well as a telephone call and email to Phnom Penh airport, the silence is deafening, to say the least, and the location of the suitcase remains a mystery.

It seems the only evidence available is that the suitcase was indeed checked in at Phnom Penh airport and did not arrive at Kuala Lumpur. After being checked in it has disappeared into thin air – or was it stolen? This has spoiled what was a once in a lifetime holiday for us. Although we can replace our personal belongings, our holiday mementos from Vietnam and Cambodia cannot be replaced.

So, thanks for nothing, Phnom Penh airport, and I’m afraid we will not be recommending your airport to any family or friends, unless they are only flying with hand luggage! Shame on you, Phnom Penh airport.
