The Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA) held a seminar in Hanoi on April 20 to discuss with the relevant agencies about measures to carry out a pilot project to enhance the teaching of the Vietnamese language abroad.

Recently, the COVA was asked to develop a project to improve the teaching quality of the Vietnamese language for Vietnamese nationals living abroad from now until 2020 to meet their increasing demands to learn the mother tongue.

After getting approval from the PM, the project has been launched on a trial run in Laos, Cambodia, Russia, the Czech Republic, the US and Canada.

The pilot project aims to evaluate the quality of Vietnamese language teaching in all the six countries and to help overseas Vietnamese maintain and use their mother tongue with the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and work out an overall project until 2020 as directed by the PM.
