Temple based education now add English as a subject

Learning Khmer at Wat Buppharam

For centuries due to the non-existent Khmer school funded by the governments, Khmer Krom have turned into temple for their education. It’s is still true today as Khmer Krom chidlren flock temple during their vacation to learn Khmer. Now they also have the benefit of learning English at some temples.

In Polieu (Bac Lieu) province there are 22 Khmer Krom buddhist temples. Most of the temple have classes to each Khmer students.

Wat Buppharam in Cái Giá village, Hung Hoi commune, Vĩnh Loi District now have over 200 students. The school start from 2pm to 5pm, with each classes takes one and half hour, 6 days a week.

The school temple is self funded from donations.
