State backs environment for media to flourish: Deputy PM

VietNamNet Bridge – The State will create favourable conditions for the media to play its part, but it will correct erroneous information, said Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem.

At a conference held in Hanoi on July 13 to review the information sector’s performance vis-à-vis foreign relations in the first half of the year, Mr Khiem, who is also chairman of the Steering Committee on External Information Service, emphasised the importance of the dissemination of information for foreign affairs.

He commended the country’s external information service providers on providing timely, useful information, thus fulfilling their tasks assigned by the Party and the State.

The Deputy Minister of Public Security Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Van Huong suggested that more publications should be made available to overseas Vietnamese.

Vice Director of the Party Central Committee Commission on Information and Training, Nguyen Bac Son, emphasised that the information sector should pay more attention to the needs of Vietnamese expatriates.

He took the occasion to highlight the effectiveness of people-to-people diplomacy and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations’ role in developing the warm relations between the Vietnamese and other people worldwide.

The participants agreed to continue finalising a development strategy for external information service in the second half of the year.
