Phu Quoc to be special zone

The Ministry of Construction approved an amended zoning plan for Phu Quoc Island at a meeting with the southern Kien Giang Province People’s Committee.
It envisages turning Phu Quoc into a special administrative and economic region, a national and international centre for tourism, resort, and trade, regional and international centre for training and research in science and technology, a regional financial and banking centre, and an international transport hub.

The island will be divided into five functional zones — three urban zones totalling 38,500 hectares, a 3,800ha tourism zone, and 1,500ha transportation zone.
