The Cambodia Academy at Mongkol Borei Announces Plans for the 2013 School Year Kick Off Campus Tour

Yearly excursion from Siem Reap for donors and guests on October 1, 2013 to celebrate increasing enrollment, improving English proficiency and growing donor base.

Foster City, CA, July 14, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Cambodia Academy at Mongkol Borei, a 501(c)(3) organization partially supported by Rotary, today announced the details of the organization's yearly excursion to visit the campus at the village of Mongkol Borei in rural Banteay Meanchey province in northwest Cambodia. The purpose of the trip is to invite donors to see the latest developments at the school as well as to invite guests and prospective supporters to visit the students, staff and faculty.

There will be a cocktail reception in Siem Reap on the evening of Monday, 30 September, 2013 for guest and supporters to meet with Hans Eide, the school's founder. The other board members, John Barrett and Richard A. Howell, will also be at the event to answer questions and meet with supporters. The group will meet on Tuesday morning, 01 October, at 8:30 a.m. to board buses to the school. A group event will follow that evening back in Siem Reap, and further details will be provided by email for those who RSVP.

"We continue to see a growing momentum at the school, a result of the ongoing sponsorship of Rotary and our individual donors from around the world," said Hans Eide, school founder and chairman of the board. "This trip is a celebration of our success in bringing education and English instruction to some of the poorest children in the region and helping them and their families to break the cycle of poverty. We welcome all guests who would like to explore with us this uplifting and rewarding work."

Founded in April 2004 by Foster City, CA Rotarian Hans Eide, the Cambodia Academy at Mongkol Borei provides a basic education aimed at reaching Cambodia's poorest youth. After having been both touched by the genuine kindness of the locals and yet unsettled by the widespread poverty suffered in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and Khmer Rouge era, Hans led efforts to turn an underutilized building into a thriving school in a region where education in neither compulsory nor affordable for the poorest families.

In 2012, the school also reached the maximum enrollment of 335 students in twelve classes in grades 1-9. The curriculum emphasizes English and all general subjects such as Khmer (the local language), math, science, and social studies.

In order to visit the school, the board requests your RSVP by September 1, 2013. All participants should arrive in Siem Reap no later than September 30, 2013, and all participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging costs. Cambodia Academy board members can provide helpful travel suggestions for Thailand and Cambodia. For a flyer with details of the excursion, please contact rich@cambodiaacademy.org.
