Russian pedophile, Alexander Trofimov, controversially pardoned after being convicted for his involvement in a large Cambodian child sex scandal, will be deported from Cambodia on Thursday, a spokesman for the Cambodian Police said.Kirt Chantharith, spokesman for the General Commissariat of National Police, told The Cambodia Herald on Monday that police were waiting for an air ticket for the former convict. "No authorities from the Russian government have come to get him so we're deporting him," the spokesman said.
Trofimov was arrested in October 2007, in his house at the popular Cambodian resort of Sihanoukville, after the parents of seven alleged victims, some as young as six, had filed complaints against him. According to Cambodian prosecutors, Trofimov, who was the head of the Cambodia-based Koh Pos Investment Group, had sex with at least 19 underage girls.
The pedophile was jailed for 17 years, reduced on appeal to eight years. He was freed last December after receiving a royal pardon from King Norodom Sihamoni.
