Police officers in 188 countries will be on the lookout for fugitive graft suspect Nunun Nurbaeti once the Interpol issues a red notice (a type of arrest warrant) for her, a spokesman for the National Police said Thursday.
Nunun Nurbaeti is a suspect in a case involving alleged bribes paid to legislators in a Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor election in 2004. Nunun, alleged to have handed over the bribes, fled to Singapore a day before the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) issued a travel ban on her.
Earlier it was reported that Nunun had been in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.
The KPK subsequently sent a request to Interpol via the National Police to issue a red notice — the Interpol’s version of an arrest warrant — for Nunun in order to bring her back to Indonesia for investigation.
According to National Police deputy spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar, the National Police had to send the request for the red notice to the Interpol's headquarters in France.
"The office in Lyon, France, will then send the [approved] red notice to member countries," he said on Thursday.
He added that Thailand and Cambodia would not be the only countries to receive the warrant.
"All member countries in the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO) will be sent the red notice," he said.
