A SOUTH Guildford resident flew to Cambodia on Saturday to spend the week helping to build 25 houses in a poverty-stricken village.

Bryony Hewitt is one of 24 volunteers from construction company Pindan who flew to the country to assist locals.

Approached by a colleague, she was quick to pack her bags in preparation.

“I thought it sounded like a fantastic opportunity to be part of something that helps out other people, particularly those who are less fortunate than most of us here in Australia,” Ms Hewitt said.

Run by the Tabitha Foundation, the Pindan team is constructing 25 simple houses in an impoverished Cambodian village, along with the help of local families and friends.

The team raised more than $30,000 for the project, to help families get out of the poverty cycle.

The group are due to return on June 11.
