Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Cambodia reached more than US$1.175 billion in 2009, down by 26.4 percent compared to 2008, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in Phnom Penh.
Vietnam’s exports to Cambodia were estimated at US$1.017 billion, showing that two countries were on the road to recovery. Since November, two-way trade value has increased by 2 percent compared to a year earlier.
Vietnam’s main export products included petroleum (US$400 million), construction iron and steel (US$160 million), machinery (US$35 million), plastic products (US$32 million) and materials for the garment sector (US$28 million).
Vietnam’s trade counselor to Cambodia, Le Bien Cuong, said this year’s bilateral trade value is expected to double that of 2009 and possibly reach a target of US$2 billion.
It rose from US$935 million in 2006 to US$1.193 billion in 2007 and nearly US$1.7 billion in 2008.
