Vietnam prepares for 2010 ASEAN Chair

13/10/2009

Sub-committees under the National Committee for ASEAN 2010 have nearly fulfilled their assigned tasks of preparing for Vietnam’s assumption of the bloc’s rotating chairmanship.

The tasks include developing projects for each field, proposing the year’s theme, launching a logo design contest, building a website for 2010, and scouting proposed locations for major meetings.

The preparations were reviewed at the National Committee for ASEAN 2010’s second meeting held in Hanoi on October 12 under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, who is also Chairman of the Committee.

In addition, the meeting shared opinions on major points in the Committee’s working roadmap from now to through year’s end, and a timetable for meetings.

Deputy PM Khiem stressed the significance and importance of Vietnam’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2010.

He hailed members of the Committee and relevant ministries for close cooperation in implementing the Committee’s working roadmap, and asked all ministries, branches and localities to continue coordinating and accelerating preparations for Vietnam to successfully fulfil its responsibilities next year.

ASEAN consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
