Human rights advocates in Cambodia say that the police had no right to burn down 100 houses in Bos village. Police burned the hosues to the ground in an attempt to evict the villagers so that Angkor Sugar Company could use the land.

Both the villagers and Angkor Sugar company claim rights to the land. Before negotiations started, police came and started tearing down and burning houses. Villagers believe the operation is owned by Ly Yongphat, a member of the ruling party.

"They evicted us without paying us any compensation at all. We do not have anything to eat." said village representative Vong Veng. Ly Yongphat and Angkor Sugar Company could not be reached for comment.
