Exchanging legislative and other experiences between the national assemblies of Vietnam , Laos and Cambodia during the current economic crisis was the main theme of a seminar that opened in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on September 21.
Speaking at the opening of the three-day seminar, Vietnamese NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong stated that it is an important forum for the delegates from the national assemblies of Vietnam , Laos and Cambodia to share their legislative and supervisory experiences and information. This will help their own legislative bodies to make more informed decisions on their socio-economic policies, especially during the current economic downturn.
At the seminar, MPs will discuss legislative processes, their assemblies and their deputies’ supervisory roles and solutions and packages the three governments have come up with to stave off the economic recession.
The global financial, energy and food crisis could create opportunities for Asian countries, especially in South-East Asia and the Vietnamese government’s stimulus packages will also be tabled for discussion at the event.
The seminar is being held as part of a co-operation project between the United Nations Development Programme and the Vietnamese NA Office to enhance the capability of representative offices in Vietnam. (VNA)
