Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva plans to meet foreign investors in the hope of boosting Thailand's trade and tourism sectors.
The prime minister is scheduled to attend the 64th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York and the G20 Summit in Pittsburg from Sept 21 to 27.
Before leaving to New York from Suvarnabhumi airport on Monday morning, Mr Abhisit said he had three main tasks during this trip.
"I will meet foreign investors to stimulate trade and tourism, explain the changes in Thailand during the last nine months and address the country's role in tackling climate change," Mr Abhisit said.
The prime minister, as Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) chairman, will take part in the G20 summit to discuss economic issues."In the past two to three years, there have been questions about the southern unrest and political problems in Thailand.
If we can maintain peace and stability people's confidence in the country would rise and different problems would be solved," he said.
