Two Thai women have been arrested at Siem Reap airport, in Cambodia, with 11kg of cocaine concealed in their baggage.

Phnom Penh Post reported that they were apprehended on Monday.

The women were identified as Yawanophat Waraporn, 20, and Chaithong Orrapun, 26, were arrested right after they landed at the airport.

Nuon Sophanny, chief of the Siem Reap Provincial Anti-Drug Police Department, said the women had confessed that they had smuggled the drug from Brazil, via a transfer at Singapore airport. The shipment was intended for Thailand, he added.

So far this year, more than 36kg of cocaine and methamphetamines have been seized at the airport in Cambodia, all believed to be destined for Thailand.
