Vietnam urges more efforts in anti-corruption fight

HANOI, March 7 (Xinhua) -- A national conference was held here on Wednesday to review implementation of Vietnam's Law on Anti-Corruption since it was enacted five years ago.

Addressing the meeting, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who is also chairman of the National Steering Committee on Prevention and Control of Corruption (CPCC), reconfirmed the determination of the Vietnamese government and people in fighting waste and corruption.

To prevent and push back degradation in political spirit, virtues and lifestyle of a number of cadres and party members, especially managers at all levels, urgent measures that confirms the especially important role of the fight against corruption in line with the resolutions of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee are prime, said the PM.

The PM highlighted the country's achievements obtained over the past five years in prevention and fight against corruption, which reinforced people's confidence in the party and government' s leadership, and was positively praised by the world community as well.

He also instructed relevant agencies to review the shortcomings and set forth measures to handle the problem, improving the quality of the work in the coming years.

According to a report by the CPCC, in the past five years, more than 11,500 party members were found to violate the party resolutions relating to corruption, of whom 2,953 cases were disciplined; four members of the Party Central Committee (from the 10th tenure), 17 local party secretaries and members of the party cells were put under investigations, together with thousands of violations put under trial.
