Cambodian, Thai Troops Exchange Shots At Border

PHNOM PENH, June 8 (Bernama) -- Cambodian and Thai troops briefly exchanged fire along their border on Tuesday, in the latest in a series of clashes between the neighbouring countries, Vietnam news agency quoted a Cambodian military official as reporting.

According to Chea Dara, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, the fire fight occurred at 9:50 am and lasted for about 15 minutes in Trapaeng Prasat district, 60 km west of the disputed ancient temple of Preah Vihear.

Dara said that Thai soldiers fired on 15 Cambodian servicemen who were patrolling the border area. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties, he added.

The border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand started in July 2008, when the Preah Vihear temple was granted UNESCO World Heritage status.
