He has yet to confirm or deny the story but Matichon this morning said the Pheau Thai Party's Chairman, Chalerm Yubamrung, is so scared of another military coup that he has built a house in Cambodia as the possible get-away home in case of another untowards incident.

The story said Chalerm's new house in Cambodia is easily accessible from the Thai border town of Aranyaprathet. A trip through Poipet lasting about one hour or so would take him to the new shelter. The house , designed by him and his wife, is being decorated and new furniture is being moved in.

Matichon says Chalerm still remembers vividly his hard times back in 1991 when he had to flee the country following a coup against the Chatichai government and was exiled to Denmark. He was then classified as one of the "unusually wealthy politicians" by the coup-makers. His assets worth about 32 million baht were seized. He sought political asylum in Denmark.

The Thai paper, without quoting any source, says as soon as Chalerm got the small of a possible coup, he set out to locate his "new home" in Cambodia.

And this is the tough-talking man who is supposed to be the prime minister if Abhisit Vejjajiva is toppled in a no-confidence debate!
