(PRLEAP.COM) AsiaRooms.com can reveal that a forthcoming triathlon event may appeal to people using accommodation in Chiang Mai or other areas of northern Thailand.

The Mekong River International Triathlon takes place from March 26th to 28th in Nong Khai, the northernmost province of the country’s north-eastern region.

Three events of various distances are scheduled for the three days, with the action building up to the Triathlon ITU Asian Cup on Sunday March 28th.

Athletes who enter this gruelling race can expect a 750-metre swim in the Mekong River, followed by a 20-kilometre bicycle ride and a five-kilometre run.

Those who are interested in participating are advised to register online before the deadline on February 28th. The standard registration fee is 600 baht, or 500 baht for the slightly shorter sprint distance.

A prize pool of 736,000 baht will be at stake and each athlete receives a souvenir T-shirt.

Competing in the triathlon will also offer people staying in accommodation in Thailand an opportunity to experience one of the world’s great rivers.

As well as Thailand, the Mekong flows through China, Burma, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, making it the seventh longest river in Asia.
