The 24 Khmer Krom asylum seekers seek intervention from UNHCR to Cambodian Government

Khmer Krom asylum seekers protest at the UNHCR in Phnom Penh

The 24 Khmer Kampuchea-Krom asylum seekers protest at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 28 December, 2009 to seek an intervention from the Cambodian Government.

Khmer Krom asylum seekers are protesting at UNHCR in Phnom Penh said that they are concerned over their fate when the Cambodian government does not have any intervention.

Chau Heng, a Khmer Krom asylum seeker told like other Khmer Krom asylum seekers, "we want to push the Cambodian government give us rights, land, home and school". Heng told, "We have heard the Cambodian government always confirms that Khmer Krom are Khmer when Khmer Krom arrived Cambodia. But we do not see any document related to us such as a letter to recognize..."

Khieu Kanha Rith said that, " If they do not make any mistake, they can live in Cambodia. They needn't go to UN. They can stay in Cambodia."

A Khmer Krom asylum seeker told that he is afraid of deporting back to Vietnam.

A group of Khmer Krom asylum seekers confirmed if they were deported to Vietnam, they would have been killed by Vietnamese Communist Government.
