Vietnam will invest VND3 trillion (US$142.8 million) into human resources training for nuclear power as of 2020, VnExpress reported Monday.
The investment was planned for a project to be conducted between Vietnam ministries of science and technology, and education in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, according to the newswire.
The project was announced at a conference on developing human resources for nuclear power program held last Friday in Hanoi.
Under the project, as of 2020, local institutions together with foreign partners will churn out some 2,400 engineers along with 350 experts with MA degrees and doctorates to serve the construction of Vietnam’s first nuclear power plant, which is due to go open that year.
This year 48 students have been recruited and are completing procedures to study atomic energy in Russia, VnExpress reported.
According to VnExpress, VND2 trillion will come from the state budget, while the other amount will be provided by the state-owned Vietnam Electricity.
Vietnam will build its first nuclear power plant in the central province of Ninh Thuan under a a multi-billion-dollar deal with Russia signed last October.
Eight nuclear plants are slated to be in operation in the country by 2031.
