Thailand has accepted the presence of an Indonesian team of observers to ensure a cease-fire holds at the Thailand-Cambodia border.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa reached the agreement in a bilateral meeting with Thailand’s Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya before the ASEAN ministerial meeting in Jakarta on Friday.
“As far as the term of reference is concerned, it is a done deal,” he said after the meeting.
“Thailand’s Foreign Minister [Piromya] was able to confirm not only that the team has been decided on but there is already agreement on terms of preference for the observer team.”
Marty said that with the agreement from Thailand, discussions would be focused on technical issues regarding when the team could be sent.
He also earlier reached an agreement with Cambodia regarding the Indonesian observer team.
