About 200 children from 20 orphanages took part in a variety of games that promoted teamwork during the first annual All Stars Championship in Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh, yesterday.
The event was a collaboration between the Rotary Club of Phnom Penh, Christian organisation New Hope for Orphans and One-2-One Cambodia, an NGO that provides education and medical care to impoverished children, prisoners and sick people.
“We’re building camaraderie and team spirit and giving the children an opportunity for fun and laughter,” said Annie Chen-Green, medical director for One-2-One Charitable Trust.
Activities at the event included three-legged, egg-and-spoon and relay races. Prizes were awarded to the groups who best displayed teamwork.
“These children from the orphanages would not be considered to be potential future leaders of Cambodia, but this gives them an opportunity to understand they have every opportunity like other children to be leaders,” Annie Chen-Green said.
