Cambodia's Prime Minister has led a mourning ceremony at the site of a bridge stampede on Monday. The official death toll has been revised down to 347. Prime Minister Hun Sen had described the incident -- which happened during the Water Festival, as the "biggest tragedy" to hit the country since the mass killings carried-out by the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s. Flags are flying at half mast and the government has asked all entertainment venues to close for the day. The stampede happened after panic broke-out while people were crossing a bridge which started to sway. It was designed to sway, but some people thought it was about to collapse. |
