TAY NINH — Diplomats, border guards and local residents witnessed markers No 81 and 84 set up on the Viet Nam-Cambodia land border on Friday and Saturday.
The two markers demarcate the division between Viet Nam’s southern Tay Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Kampong Cham Province.
On this occasion, Vietnamese and Cambodian border guards met to share experiences in an effort to build a common sense of peace and friendship on the border.
In the past year, Long An Province to the south of Tay Ninh planted 16 land border markers on the Viet Nam-Cambodiaborder. It borders Cambodia’s Svay Rieng and Pray Veng provinces along more than 137km.
According to the Foreign Affairs Department of Long An Province, most of the markers are located in isolated areas, which has caused many difficulties for construction crews.
Land border demarcation between the two countries is expected to be complete by the end of 2012. —VNS
