Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced a plan to improve security along the Thai-Cambodian border with a budget of 100 million US dollars marked for the purpose.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said after his visit to the disputed land surrounding the ancient Preah Vihear Temple last Saturday that a budget of 100 million US dollars will be spent to strengthen security along the Thai-Cambodian border and to raise the living standards of local residents.

Hun Sen said that as long as he is in office, he will keep supporting soldiers' operations to protect the country's sovereignty. He noted that foreign countries, even Thailand, will not be allowed to encroach on Cambodia's territory.

The Cambodian premier further said that more construction of roads, bridges and military bases and soldiers' barracks will take plac in Cambodia's Preah Vihear province.

When asked whether the plan aims at pressuring the Thai government, Hun Sen said he did not want to see any confrontation between Thai and Cambodian troops, but noted Cambodian forces are ready for action, if needed.

Hun Sen also denied that the 4.6-square kilometer area in the vicinity of the Preah Vihear Temple is an overlapping territorial area, saying tha map used to define it was unilaterally made by Thai authorities.

He added that the security development plan is aimed at improving the quality of life of those living near the Preah Vihear Temple as the construction of the Somdej Decho Hun Sen museum is underway.

Hun Sen noted that construction of Somdej Decho Hun Sen museum, which will be used to promote the glory of the Khmer kingdom, began in the middle of last year and is almost completed.
