United Kingdom - Cambodia meat and farming deal

12/11/2009

Take me somewhere East of Suez where a man can raise a thirst (Kipling)as an important agreement between a British farming group and a major Cambodian conglomerate has been announced.

The agreement will create a US$ 27million joint venture producing beef and dairy products, as well as goat meat and milk. The single farm will include an abattoir and a dairy unit.

It comes after another successful joint venture to create a Cambodian pig meat sector that is already reaching its production targets.

A third agreement to import US$ 1 million worth of bovine semen from the UK has also been signed.

In a separate development, an important agreement has been signed this week in Malaysia for the supply of cattle semen and embryos. This major deal is worth £10 million over five years.

EBLEX and BPEX Export Manager Jean-Pierre Garnier said: "These developments are of great importance for countries that rely almost totally on imports of pork, beef and dairy products. The English livestock sector has shown once again that it can provide a lead in commercial developments in new markets."
