Deputy PM meets US Religious Freedom delegation

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem received a delegation from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, led by its Vice President, Michael Cromartie, in Hanoi on May 12.

The Deputy PM highlighted the Vietnamese government’s consistent policy that tries to ensure people’s religious lives. This is seen as an important objective for the country’s socio-economic development process, Khiem said.

He said the assessment of religious situation in Vietnam should be based on a comprehensive and objective, taking into account the country’s historical, cultural and traditional characteristics.He confirmed that Vietnam is willing to talk and share information relating to religious affairs to strengthen mutual understanding.

For its part, the delegation appreciated the nation’s report as part of the Universal Periodic Review of the UN Human Rights Council at a session in Geneva on May 8./.
