VN, Cambodia firms increase trade

TAy Ninh — Border trade between Vietnamese and Cambodian businesses in the southern province of Tay Ninh reached nearly US$700 million in the first eight months of 2011, a year-on-year increase of 30 per cent.

According to the provincial steering board for border trade, in the first eight months of this year, Vietnamese businesses exported about $300 million worth of products to Cambodia, up 20 per cent year-on-year.

The board said to facilitate cross-border trade between the two sides, the province had focused on developing infrastructure and border markets, while offering tax incentives to local residents.

Viet Nam exports mainly leather and plastic products, automobile inner-tubes and tyres and furniture to Cambodia. Meanwhile, it mainly imports fresh and dried cassava, soybean, rice, cattle and raw cashew nuts.
