Russia calls on Cambodia and Thailand to stop armed clashes on the border and resolve the situation peacefully. This is stated in a Russian Foreign Ministry statement. The Ministry recalled that in February this year the UN Security Council "urged Bangkok and Phnom Penh to exercise restraint, avoid escalation of military confrontation."
On Thursday a fire exchange between the military of both countries in the border district of Surin resulted in the death of five soldiers, with at least eight Thai soldiers injured.
In February, the vicinity of the temple Preah Vihear was the scene of a 4-day border war between Cambodia and Thailand.
