Three Thais were killed and 22 others wounded in cross-border clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops during Feb. 4-6, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department chief Wiboon Sanguanpong announced on Thursday.
The three dead were two soldiers and one civilian while of the 22 injured were 14 soldiers and eight civilians.
The cross-border shelling caused seven houses to be completely destroyed and 28 partly damaged. Two buildings of a school in Kantharalak district of border Si Sa Ket province were partly damaged, so was the office of Sao Thong Chai tambon administration organisation (TAO).
The shelling also damaged 50 rai of rubber plantations.
A total of 21,720 villagers and eight Buddhist monks were evacuated to 37 holding centers in 10 districts of Si Sa Ket province.
Some 5,655 people in Surin province and 3,650 people in Ubon Ratchathan province, bordering Cambodia, were also evacuated, according to the report by the department.
