Vietnam's plastics export value is expected to hit a record high of one billion US dollars this year, said a report by Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Commerce on Tuesday.
According to the report, Vietnam earned 554.1 million U.S. dollars from export of plastics in the first seven months. In July alone, the plastics export value reached 86.4 million U.S dollars, an increase of 24.2 percent year-on-year, said the report.
Vietnam's plastics products are exported to over 70 countries and regions. Among those, Japan was the largest buyer, accounting for 26.5 percent of the country's total plastics sales from January to July this year.
Other major export markets include the United States, Germany and Cambodia.
According to statistics and analysis by the United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Database, Vietnam has potential in increasing plastics products exports to a number of new markets including countries in the Middle East and South Africa.
