VietNamNet Bridge – An exhibition on the country’s defence of its borders and territories has opened at the Museum of Viet Nam Revolution in Ha Noi.
The exhibition is divided into three sections featuring Vietnamese borders before 1945; work on borders and territories from 1945 until today; and establishment of Vietnamese borders in peace, friendship, integration and development.
More than 300 items, documents and pictures displayed at the museum reflect the Party and the State’s attention to, and the people’s participation in defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation.
The two-month exhibition also showcases the efforts of border working missions and the results of border demarcation and the planting of landmarks between Viet Nam and neighbouring countries of Laos, Cambodia and China.
Pictures of Viet Nam’s activities to defend its sovereignty on the East Sea are also on display.
Visitors have a chance to contemplate valuable items such as Dai Nam Nhat Thong Toan Do (The Map of United Viet Nam) drawn in 1834, under King Minh Mang and the other maps of the Nguyen dynasty confirming Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.
The exhibition jointly organised by the museum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Committee of Borders attempts to convey to visitors the importance and difficulties of border work.
The museum used the opening of the exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding and receipt of the Ho Chi Minh Order, the second highest distinction bestowed by the State.
Over the past 50 years, the museum has collected and preserved more than 83,000 items, pictures, documents, books and newspapers, including valuable items related to the revolutionary life of President Ho Chi Minh, leaders of the Party and the State, and other revolutionary veterans.
Over the past 20 years, throughout the nation’s on-going doi moi (renewal) process, the museum has opened mobile exhibitions in more than 300 localities.
